| Remarks & Notes |
| No. 12 was sabotaged by someone removing a rail on a curve just before a fill on a downgrade at Mile 4 during the night. The 2 Canadian Pacific hoists were leased at $10,000 per day per hoist and it took almost 2 weeks to get the engines up back on the track. The leading SD stayed upright but the 2 trailing SD's went down the fill. There was very little damage done going in, and more damage was caused by lifting the engine out. The old ties helped cushion the impact.
This engine was returned to service in about a month.
The person who did this was caught, but only got 6 months in jail. Fortunately no one was injured! |
