Remarks & Notes
There are a few things in this world that I believe I could never get tired of. Watching an Alco RS-2 or RS-3 switch cars is one of them. It was in just such an environment that I acquired my infatuation with trains. Ron Flanary nailed it down with "Diddy RUMP, Diddy RUMP, Diddy RUMP." To me it will always be a sound without comparison. And then when they throttled up, there was usually a plume of black smoke and finally the engine seemed to catch up with the exhaust. D&H RS-3 No. 4099 had just throttled up to shove in a cut of cars, dusting the neighborhood in some fine black Alco exhaust. Pushing hard, the stack is finally starting to clear.
