Maeklong Market, also known as Folding Umbrella Market or Talat Rom Hoop, is a very curious market located in Samut Songkhram. It is composed of stalls that are set up literally along the rail track selling fish, vegetables and other foods. Eight times a day, the commuter train runs directly through the middle of the market, forcing vendors to pull back their awnings from the track while shoppers find a place to step off of the track that serves as their only walkway. Once the train passes, the awnings are lowered to their original positions and business resumes as if nothing had happened.
