On August 22, 2011, Pan Am Railways and Norfolk Southern combined their business trains at Ayer, MA and ran west to Mechanicville, NY so that the railroads' executives could view the progress of the new intermodal/automotive yard being built at Mechanicville. Here, FP9 PAR 1--the leader for the train--is seen approaching the old Johnsonville Tower at Johnsonville, NY. It was here that the the Boston & Maine's line to Troy, NY diverged (once a major passenger route, the line survived for local freight service until 1971, after which it was abandoned and the tracks pulled-up).
