Remarks & Notes
The Steady Hand - ARR's #1 engineer, Frank Sheppard applies his 40 yrs of experience as he gently guides ARR's weekly passenger train, the Aurora, north along the frozen shore of the Big Susitna River in the roadless wildlands of Alaska north of Talkeetna. With an "office" view like this, it's no wonder that the highest seniority crews elect to work this all daylight run, one of very view on the mainline in winter. Out the window can be seen Mt. McKinley, North America's highest peak at 20,320 ft. All in a day's work... Note: the photographer is a railroad employee with permission to be on the locomotive, was not a member of the operating crew, and all present performed a job briefing before any photographs were taken.

A tribute to the engineers who drive the engines of America's railways. Comments welcome from those who sat behind the trottle.
