Remarks & Notes
The Louisville section of C&O’s George Washington (eastbound, train 22) is departing L&N’s Union Station in June 1965. C&O’s trains serving the Derby City called at the riverfront Central Station until the summer of ’63, when the “George” moved to Union. The train split off the main line section at Ashland, KY. A slightly longer consist this morning has occasioned the addition of a second E8, but normally a single unit could handle the Louisville section. This service lasted until the advent of Amtrak in 1971. C&O’s Louisville line from Ashland to Lexington (where trackage rights over the L&N continued into Louisville) was abandoned some 25 years ago.
