Remarks & Notes
Teamwork
Portland & Western crewmen pause from their work and wave to crew of the UP Albany Roustabout as it rolls by at restricted speed. In the background, the yard crew engineer boards the PNWR 1501 after a safety briefing on the clean-up plans. A few hours earlier, the UP MPDPW manifest train derailed its last car as it was arriving at Albany yard. The gondola, loaded with scrap metal, found itself occupying two tracks instead of one. After continuing this way for a hundred feet or so, the rail eventually failed and the lead truck derailed.
In the background, the former Railway Express Agency building is being remodeled into offices for Albany Transit. Behind that building stands the Albany Amtrak station.
Related Photos: See another derailment of an MPDPW on May 21, 2010, just one month later.
