Remarks & Notes
For quite a while, I’ve been wanting to photograph what little remains of the East Carolina Railway. It was a true shortline from the start, in business from 1898-1965, that ran about 35 miles from Tarboro to Hookerton mainly to serve the tobacco industry. Bits and pieces of the line can still be seen including this stretch in Farmville. Looking north up the old East Carolina, we see a Carolina Coastal work train roll across the diamonds on the tracks of the old NS. Farmville has a maze of tracks hidden in the weeds that were once busy with interchange and agricultural traffic. It's hard to tell what's still in use and what isn't. I'm not sure about this piece of track.
