Remarks & Notes
Two Northbound rattlers pause at Thurmond station to pick up clearance forms and train orders. It is a difficult summer for train crews because the C&O is ripping up one of two main tracks through the New river gorge. During this era many double track trunk lines were being rationalized with single track CTC. The person standing on the right is the conductor of the GP 9 powered coal train
