While most photos from the ARR's south end seem to depict a place where the sun is always shining, this scene is actually much more typical on the route between Anchorage and Portage Jct. For most of the year, low clouds, strong winds, and intermittent rain are the prevailing conditions along the Turnagain Arm. In this scene, north and southbound passenger trains meet at the 1105ft Rainbow siding, with cab/HEP unit #31 bringing up the rear of the south-bounder.
