| Remarks & Notes |
| The lovely big loco was originally designed for heavy freight. This was a member of the last class of steam locos built for British Railways. Here's a panned shot of it climbing to Summerseat at Burrs on the East Lancashire Railway this morning (21-5-08) with a mid week train. The safety valves are blowing, so the gradient is no problem with four coaches. I was the only one there on a sunny Wednesday morning. Not in Mitch's league, but I've taken worse. Oh, by the way, have a close look at the centre driving wheels - Hey Presto, no flanges! (How else would these long rigid locos get round tight bends). |
