A rare photograph. The handsome Royal Scot class no. 6115 Scots Guardsman at New Mills in 1978 on a main line special. Because of the thick fog, not many people took pictures at that time. Apparently, because the mechanical condition of the locomotive was not top-notch, British Rail only ever allowed it to make two main line runs. It has not run on the main line since, but is now under restoration at Carnforth with a view to a return to the main line. My 100th RailPictures photo.
