Remarks & Notes |
An old shot from 1977. On a misty, snowy morning, an EMU leaves Radcliffe with a train for Manchester, crossing the viaduct over the River Irwell. This line ran on a 1200v DC third Rail system. The rail was "boxed in" by wood. It had been electrified in 1916. In the early nineties, it was converted to an LRT line, operating trams running with current from overhead wires. The station in the background has been rationalised and there are now no signs of there having been a junction here. |
