| Optical illusion or marvel of engineering? The notable difference in grade between tracks 1 and 2 is exaggerated in this shot at Newcastle, as 5583 descends track 1 in a cloud of brake smoke and dynamic brake heat. Special thanks to Steve Schmollinger, whose similar shot at Newcastle provided the inspiration for this photo, as have countless others of his from Donner and Tehachapi. (300 F/4 + 1.4 TC) |
