Remarks & Notes
Big Mac Pack. The units on the rear of Norfolk Southern train C47 were the main attraction on May 4, 2019 as the train passed under the PT 263 signal bridge in Summerhill, Pennsylvania. NS 7201 (née-CR 4102, SD80MAC, 2/1996) and NS 7215 (née-CR 4127, SD80MAC, 5/1996) were trailing NS 7513 (ES44DC, née NS 7513, ES40DC, 5/2004) as the loaded consist of what the Pennsylvania Railroad called "mineral freight" (coal) headed towards Altoona, Pennsylvania. The limited production of 28 SD80MACs (plus 2 demonstrators) produced by EMD was always more popular with railfans than Conrail and later owners CSX and Norfolk Southern, who subsequently decided that approximately 4,000-4,400hp was the level of power they wanted in a locomotive, and they were stored and retired with a year of this photo. In just over a month, the signal bridge would be demolished.
